E-Waste Collection Events: Nassau County’s 2024 Schedule for Safe Technology Recycling

Turn Your Old Electronics Into Environmental Action: Nassau County’s 2024 E-Waste Collection Schedule

As technology continues to evolve at breakneck speed, Nassau County residents face an increasingly common challenge: what to do with outdated electronics cluttering their homes and offices. From old smartphones and laptops to broken televisions and printers, electronic waste (e-waste) has become one of the fastest-growing waste streams in America. Fortunately, Nassau County offers multiple safe and convenient options for responsible technology recycling throughout 2024.

Understanding E-Waste and Why It Matters

Electronic devices contain hazardous materials such as lead, mercury, arsenic, and other poisons and carcinogens. Electronics should not be disposed of in trash collection. In accordance with the New York State Electronic Recycling and Reuse Act of 2010, beginning January 1, 2015 consumers are prohibited from disposing of electronic waste at any solid waste management facility or placing electronic waste in the trash or at the curbside for trash collection.

The environmental impact of improper e-waste disposal extends far beyond overflowing landfills. Recycling electronic waste protects the environment by keeping toxic materials, such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic from entering the waste stream. When electronics end up in landfills, these harmful substances can leach into groundwater and soil, posing serious risks to both human health and the ecosystem.
